Emergency lighting Maintanance Having adequate emergency lighting to ensure the means of escape are adequately lit in the event of a lighting failure is important. The escape routes require emergency lighting, but areas of danger, electrical intake rooms, lift motor rooms, fire alarm panel location, fire equipment locations, etc. In the UK these requirements come under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which places a duty on the 'Responsible Person' to ensure these measures are in place. There are three main types of emergency lighting: a) Self containted luminaires; b) Central battery systems; c) Emergency generators. The generally accepted design code for emergency lighting is BS5266. |
