Fire Alarm Weekly Testing
Your responsibilities
The Fire Safety Order requires all businesses and organisations to test their fire alarm weekly. The person who is legally responsible to ensure that this weekly fire alarm test is carried out is the employer, managing agents or property owner. Where a commercial property has a shared fire alarm system, it is the commercial property manager's responsibility, plus the employer of the tenanted areas to ensure this test is carried out and that the appropriate records are kept in the premise's Fire log book.

However, in today's busy working environment it is not always easy to organise and maintain such a test. Fire Systems Ltd can provide a Fire alarm weekly testing programme to suit your business.
Fire Systems Ltd, can arrange for a fire alarm test inspector to attend your building each week at the same designated time, and will conduct the weekly fire alarm test in accordance with the requirements laid out in British Standard BS 5839 and the FSO. The test will give you peace of mind that the fire alarm is operational and if connected to an Alarm Receiving Centre, that the centre responsible for calling the fire brigade has also received the required fire signal. A different manual call point will be used during each weekly test, so that all call points in the building are tested in rotation.
The results of the test will be recorded in the client’s Fire Log Book, and a record kept electronically at our office. If, however, the fire alarm does not operate correctly, the responsible person will be informed that day, notifying you of the fault and the necessary action that needs to be taken to rectify the problem. Fire Systems Ltd, have a service and maintenance department, therefore, should an instruction to rectify the fault be given, the fault is transferred to our call out division and the premises will have a qualified fire alarm engineer usually on site on the same day. Having such a responsive service ensures your fire alarm is always operational giving all concerned peace of mind.

- Personnel working within the building get to hear what the fire alarm sounds like. Nowadays, working personnel move quite frequently to various buildings during their work. Each building may have different fire alarm alert sounds such as bells, electronic sounders or voice alarm.
- During the test, the fire alarm wardens or personnel responsible for operating the fire alarm can watch the tester operate the fire alarm and familiarise themselves in the process of activating the alarm, silencing and resetting the system. Our testers will go through the process if anyone requires this information.
- Staff working within the building is reassured that their management is taking their responsibility of fire safety seriously.
