The clause basically states, it is essential the fire alarm system is subject to a fire alarm servicing so that unrevealed faults are identified, preventive measures can be taken to ensure the continued reliability of the system, false alarm problems are identified and suitably addressed, and that the user is made aware of any changes to the building that affect the protection offered by the system.
Fire alarm servicing needs to be carried out by a competent person with specialist knowledge of fire alarm systems and an in depth of the fire alarm system servicing guidelines as set out in BS5839-1 Clause 44.
Because of the in depth knowledge required, the fire alarm servicing is usually carried out by a professional BAFE accredited fire alarm company.

Fire Alarm servicing is usually carried out every 3 or 6 months. The frequency at which determines how often a fire alarm is inspected depends on the size of the fire alarm system and the risk involved. All test and inspections are recorded on engineers PDA and electronically sent to the office. A copy of any inspection or any fire alarm servicing works can be electronically emailed to the client at any time. |
