Fire Systems awarded contract for Bell Common Tunnel

Fire Systems Ltd awarded fire alarms and fire suppression systems contract for both the Holmesdale and Bell Common Tunnels.
Fire Systems Ltd performance installing fire alarms and fire suppression systems on the £75millon M25 Holmesdale Tunnel Refurbishment project in 2006 put them in a strong position when tendering for the £91millon Bell Common Tunnel Refurbishment scheme in 2008.
London-based fire alarm company, Fire Systems Ltd assisted in the design of the fire alarms and fire suppression systems with Capita and Costain.
Fire Systems Ltd, project team had to work closely with Costain to ensure all works were completed within the milestone targets set by the main contractor.
The contract for the Bell Common Tunnel was part of a larger £90.4m project by the Highways Agency to refurbish the tunnel, replacing mechanical and electrical equipment, which was installed when it was first built in the 1980s.
Costain, the main contractor both projects, awarded Fire Systems Ltd the contract for both tunnels to supply the fire suppression and fire alarms. The contracts involved installing, eighteen Novec fire suppression systems, six addressable fire alarm systems and eight HSSD aspirating systems. Fire Systems Ltd, were also awarded the upgrade of the fire alarms in the Tunnel Control Buildings.
The building's housing the jet propelled engineers is known as the East and West Vent buildings. The fire suppression systems within these buildings are protecting the LV switch, battery and computer rooms, and the communal areas being protected by addressable fire alarms.
Fire Systems Ltd, had to work to a rigid programmes on both projects, but completed all works within the allocated programmes.
